  • YOUR PRESCRIPTION

  • Help! I can't understand what is written on my prescription.

Email, fax or post it to us. Failing that, give us your Optician's name and we will contact them on your behalf to get your prescription.

  • How do I get my prescription?

Go to your local opticians and get an eye test. Your Optician must (by law) give you a copy of your prescription. We recommend that you also ask your Optician for your PD (pupillary distance) at this time.

If you have had your eyes tested within the last year or two years (whichever is relevant to you) then simply ask your Optician for a written copy.

If you are having any problems getting this information we will try and assist you by contacting them on your behalf.

  • How do I know if my prescription is still valid?

The date of your sight test should be within the last 2 years or, if relevant to you, 12 months.

  • What is the strongest prescription you can accommodate?

Legally we cannot supply prescriptions with a power of +/- 10 or over without a personal consultation. If we feel you have a particularly complex prescription then we contact you immediately upon receipt of your prescription.

  • Can you read the prescription off my existing glasses if I send them to you?

Yes we can - you will incur postage and we will return them to you with your new glasses order – so make sure you have a spare pair!

  • What is my PD? Where do I find it?

PD is the distance between your pupils in mm. This measurement is necessary to determine where the optical centre on the lens should be fitted.

Generally your optician should tell you what your PD is, if they are not forthcoming we can make your glasses using an average PD measurement. However, this is dependent on your prescription – we will advise you further when you make your order.

  • LENSES

  • Do you offer Varifocal/progressive lenses?

Yes we do, you would have to visit us in person, this is due to the measurements being very specific to each wearer and is something we would have do in person. The alternative is to buy the ‘frame only’.

For more information on any of the above please contact us.

  • Do you sell Bi-focal lenses?

Yes we do, you would have to visit us in person, this is due to the measurements being very specific to each wearer and is something we would have do in person. The alternative is to buy the ‘frame only’.

For more information on any of the above please contact us.

  • Can you put new lenses into an existing frame?

Yes we can, as long as the frame is in reasonable condition. You will need to post the frame to us for assessment before we could fit new lenses but in most cases this is possible.

Prices start from £89.00 for single vision – contact us for more information.

  • Do you sell transition/photo-chromatic lenses?

Yes we do, we mainly use Essilor transition lenses which are one of the best transition lenses available - in just 30 seconds exposure to sunlight they darken to standard sunglasses dark (15% light transmission).

For more information on any of the above please contact us.

  • Do you offer prescription sunglasses?

    Yes, they work the same way as a regular prescription - we would add a tint of your choice ie;

Block tint (same colour all over)
Graduated tint (dark at top, light at the bottom)
Tint match (matched to original sunglasses lenses)

For more information on any of the above please contact us.

  • Can you give me information on various coatings and tints?

UV protection – all of the lenses we supply as standard have full UV protection

Anti Scratch - because plastic lenses are fairly soft they do tend to scratch quite easily. The anti scratch coating will ensure your lenses are scratch resistant however this does not guarantee against scratching.

Anti reflection coating - this is a fluorine layer applied to lenses which make your glasses look aesthetically better since it eliminates reflections and glare - particularly useful for driving and using the computer.

  • Will plastic lenses scratch?

Yes, that's why we strongly recommend that you take one of our anti reflect/scratch coatings.

All at additional costs as below.

    Anti scratch - £20
    Anti reflection and anti-scratch combined - £45

  • How do I know which lens type is right for me?

All our store prices include the cost of a 1.5 standard index lens suitable for prescriptions upto +/- 3.00

If however your prescription would benefit from thinner lenses these are available as additional extras as follows:

    1.6 – (mid Index) – 35% thinner. Suitable for prescriptions upto +/- 3.75
